So if you were looking, those 1M verified 1965 (P) cents could be priceless. Out of the nearly 6.5B 1964 pennies, only 3.8B have mint marks. But some 1964 penny values are much higher. To deal with coin hoarders and silver stackers, the mint tried different metals and non-metals such as vanadium, antimony, aluminum, silicone, and even plastic as replacements for specie coins. Its still referred to as SMS because it was coined in the same style as SMS coins. But that doesnt mean you cant find these rare 1964 pennies if youre lucky, of course! It's a 1963 D penny that appears to be just a bit smaller than the usual cent. For comparison, I pulled a 1964-D from one of my probably-uncirculated rolls.
